Rook turned his gaze up and remembered Emmrich’s words. I am still only a man. They seemed to fit here, while Emmrich was burning to the touch, eyes dark and hooded as they watched Rook. His elbow settled against the back of the chair, fingers buried in his already mussed hair, chest rising and falling steadily, if too fast. The evidence of Rook's own desperation littered his body. Points of bruising from enthusiastic teeth and tongue were scattered over the sharp dip of his collar and his trim shoulders; a trail of thin, red welts left by clawing nails disappeared into a neat patch of silvered hair. A lone bead of sweat trembled on his belly.

Rook had never been hungrier.

“Okay?” he asked, letting the word be barren and plain as his own need. A no might shatter him, but he needed to be sure. Pushing wouldn’t do here. 

“Whatever you like,” Emmrich answered and Rook had enough mind to trust him. His own damning plea for Emmrich to believe him was only fair if it went both ways.

“Okay,” he confirmed, licking his lips, “I like this.”

there are some really interesting differences I'm noticing in the performances of the british and american masc rooks in the weisshaupt mission that do different things to rook's characterization -- with the 'there's worse than darkspawn on the way' line as an example, british rook sounds genuinely disqueted, almost hushed, it's a really compelling little shading he does with his voice. you get uneasy along with him. meanwhile the american one sounds SO almost unsettlingly determined and focused rather than unsettled himself. he sounds like a bullet of a person ready to cut through anything in the way to get where he's needed and not even contemplating any other outcomes as possible. it's almost stark in its clarity of purpose, despite the lighter and younger-sounding voice.

they're both really good performances and they give slightly different shading you can use as material for what rook is like as a person, I really really love this

whats the story about the scars on marisol's back?

when she was a kid (around 8 or so), the woman who was caring for her sold her to an Antivan noble/merchant prince. her magic developed fairly young, but she'd been able to hide it from her caretaker (who didn't pay much notice to her anyway), but once enslaved she couldn't hide it for much longer - especially since the noble was working with blood mages as a means to gain more power/influence.

she had strangely potent blood, so the scars are both from punishment and from being used for blood magic - both as a source, and being forced to perform it herself. she'd also previously done street performance (singing/dancing) to busk for money when with her caretaker - so when enslaved, most scars were kept to places that could be easily covered as to not "ruin her looks".

when she was 13/14-ish she caught the eye of a magister the nobleman associated with, who began to try to break her into becoming his 'apprentice' - esp when it became clear that she might be a somniari/dreamer. luckily, it was around that time that Viago was contracted to kill her Antivan master - a job that ended up pretty messy, but also led him to meet her and take her in as a fledgling (and eventually mentor her).

she is incapable of doing healing magic, and has a mild resistance/physical reaction when it's used on her (kind of like she's mildly allergic to it lmao). it works, it just kind of sucks while it's happening.

(the magister was not present or part of the contract, but he would reappear later in Marisol's story)

(or that's the gist of it, i haven't settled fully on the details of her backstory)

Suggestion for drabbles since I don't recall if you've done it before:

Assassin's Creed x Dragon Age. Because it just hit me that the memory-reading Animus could be compared to blood magic (literally since its reading stuff in your blood and while I don't know the full details on the function, it seems like body/mind control might have enough similarity with animus burning memories of your ancestors in your head to count) and the Templars are basically Completely Unchallenged in their power over... well, influence or history whereas the Circles's (nominally anyway) are publicly and knowingly tied to a religion structure.

Whether it's a AC character yeeted into DA, vice versa, or a fusion. Take your pick.

Desmond pretended not to look at the man (the dwarf) sitting across the fire, instead fidgeting with his hidden blade. The mechanism had jammed sometime in the last fight anyway, and it was with Altair’s practiced hands that he tended to the weapon.

“It’s a long story.”

Varric laughed, even as his hand didn’t stray too far from Bianca. “They usually are. Fortunately I make my business in stories… among other things.”

Desmond didn’t know where to start, how to put the Animus, war between Templars and Assassins, and the three assassins who had taken the place of their memories in a skull that was already filled with to bursting, into words that someone from a world where chamber pits still existed.

Then again, he had been forced to explain it to his three mental roommates… and dragons apparently existed here so….

That… still wouldn’t explain the arm, blackened as if he had shoved it into an open flame (or directly into the fucking sun) and threaded with golden circuits that were several hundred if not thousand years ahead of their time.

“You’re not a mage,” Varric, thankfully seemed to take pity on him at least a little. “I’ve never seen one so… stabby who wasn’t—.” He broke off all at once some of the reading light dying in his eyes.

Maybe Desmond wasn’t the only one with a long story to tell.

“I was… captured. Experimented on. They… changed me. Put memories in my head that weren’t my own and gave me…” he waved rather than finish the sentence before going back to the hidden blade, cursing in Italian as it stayed stubbornly jammed.

In his head Altair scoffed and called him a novice whose was less than helpful.

“Memories or a demon?”

Desmond laughed a little. “They’ve been called that, but while they are killers threaten killers with a creed.”

“You have Crows in your head?”

This time when Desmond laughed it was full and deep. “Let’s call them eagles,” His voice was filled with mirth and his head full of laughter and irritated grumblings. “But I’m serious about the Creed. We don’t kill innocents.”

“And who decides who is innocent?”

“Who decides that for you?” Desmond shot back with a pointed look at the monster of a crossbow that Ezio was dying to get his metaphorical hands on. Something about Leonardo having made something similar. “Normally the ones that are innocent are the ones not actively trying to kill me at that particular moment… normally. It can get a bit complicated.”

“And when you decide someone isn’t innocent?”

Desmond shrugged, “A knife to the heart hasn’t failed me yet.”

Varric was quiet for a long moment, then huffed a laugh. “Anyone ever told you you think in straight lines?”

The mechanism unjammed and Desmon grinned. “They didn’t seem to think it was nearly as much of a good thing as you do.”

“Trust me, with the person I’m after, the ability to cut straight through twisting words is exactly the kind of thing I need. I could use the help if you’re willing.”

It was strange, being asked instead of being told. Desmond couldn’t remember a single time in his life something had been a request.

At least this time he wouldn’t have his brain scrambled… probably.

“Fuck it, I have nothing better going on.”

Varric’s smile was wide as he set Bianca to the side, still within easy arms reach but far enough away that he couldn’t shoot Desmond before he could move. Not that he could have if he had the crossbow pressed against the back of Desmond’s head, but the gesture what seen and understood all the same.

“Welcome aboard, Rook. How do you feel about pissing off a god?”

Desmond Miles tipped his head back and laughed.

We shall see if my awake at normal hours brain tomorrow is determined enough to attempt to follow through on it. I love that the devs took notes of DAI and allow us to change character appearance mid-game. Aside from meta reasons like my Shadow Dragon Rook inadvertently looking exactly like Solas in cutscene, which of course I had to fix (was a good laugh though), for story reasons my Rook chose to save Treviso and upon returning to see the damage to his city and his faction, he decided to plaster even more Shadow Dragon tattoos on his face as an act of defiance and remembrance.

Dorm-inspired Outfits (from my Closet)

A few months ago, I put together a few things from my closet based on the different twst dorms. I posted them to Reddit, but now, they shall also have a home here on Tumblr :) But I'll also add a bit more info on the inspirations behind my use of the various pieces here, just for fun. Also, pardon the socks; I didn't bother picking shoes to go with the outfits. I'll describe what shoes I would wear with each look, though!

Also, uhh... body reveal? Before showing my cosplay (whenever it is that I finish it lol)

Heartslabyul

For this outfit, I wanted to feature the clashing patterns and fabrics of the dorm uniforms, while also incorporating an Alice in Wonderland-esque aesthetic. I used a yellow fabric belt, similar to the yellow sash of the dorm uniform, and added a scarf with a rose pattern and the same colour scheme as the rest of the outfit. I also retained my watch (which I really should have switched out for one of my analogue watches, but... oh well) and my "Save The Bees" bracelet, since it seemed to fit with the theme and I wear it on basically a daily basis, so...

I would pair this look with these white socks and my saddle oxfords.

Savanaclaw

With the Savanaclaw outfit, I wanted an active and somewhat more masc look. I tried to stay true to the warm colour scheme, and reference the leather vest of the dorm uniform using the sleeveless flannel I had. I also kept my watch and bracelet for this outfit, but I added two necklaces - one with a celtic knot pendant, and one with a piece of quartz, though if I had a tooth or bone necklace, I would have used that instead.

I would wear my brown leather boots with this outfit.

Octavinelle

This outfit is one of the closest to how I normally dress. The dress is black with lavender flowers, with a gather in the skirt on the left side, giving the heavy material more movement - it just feels "Octavinelle". I added a braided belt with a silvery buckle to give a little more definition, and a pearlescent pink and purple necklace, along with white gloves. I also wore my cream coat over my shoulders as a coat-cape, à la Azul Ashengrotto.

I would not wear socks with this, but instead stockings and my black and white pumps.

Scarabia

I wanted to follow the colour scheme and ~vibe~ of the dorm and its uniform for this Scarabia-inspired outfit. The floral skirt may seem to be an odd choice, but the deep orange of the flowers and the satin material seemed to fit with Scarabia. I also added more jewellery - multiple rings, and two necklaces, all golden in colour - to complete the look.

I would probably wear either my tan scandals, or white ankle socks and my heeled leather oxfords with this outfit.

Pomefiore

I felt like Pomefiore needed a classic, powerful look - what better way to do that than with a black pencil skirt? That, I paired with a sheer blouse with satin cuffs, and a (mostly) purple, high-necked, sleeveless knit. The orange, cream, and golden stripes in the knit also reflect the gold detailing of the Pomefiore dorm uniform.

I definitely wouldn't wear socks with this - it's another job for the black and white pumps, or maybe even my black heeled boots, depending on the vibe.

Ignihyde

Ignihyde just SCREAMED for the use of my CrankGameplays "Soft Boi" shirt. It's light blue, plus it's gamer merch - the perfect combo. Add in some black jeans, headphones, and a blue and white scarf in the pocket, and Ignihyde is complete!

I'd wear either my pink skate shoes, or maybe my brown leather boots with this one, I think.

Diasomnia

Finally, Diasomnia. I simply needed to use my green turtleneck with this one, but I knew I had to use black for the rest of the outfit. So, black trousers and a black cardigan (again, over the shoulders) were the other components I used, as well as a black braided belt - both to add a little texture, as well as a hint of silver, as is featured in the Diasomnia dorm uniform as well.

I'd wear black socks and my black heeled boots with this outfit.

And with that, we're complete! Let me know your thoughts - did I capture the spirits of the dorms in these outfits? :)
